ISA Annual Report 2025

The International Society of Automation delivered another year of excellent performance and sustained growth in 2025.

More programs and services for the automation community

More members

More revenue and resources
for innovation

This is our  fourth consecutive year  of positive momentum building upon our society's foundation of more than 80 years of technical excellence.

It's a new ISA, and we are proud to serve our community of automation professionals all over the world.

From the President

It has been an honor to serve as your president during a year of continued growth and progress at ISA. I have truly valued the opportunity to work with and support all of you throughout 2025.

My sincere thanks to Claire Fallon, our CEO, and the entire staff for their continued work keeping the society running strong and advancing ISA’s three-year strategic plan. I am equally grateful to the many volunteers who give their time and expertise — leading sections, supporting standards and committees and strengthening the automation profession. Thank you as well to the full Executive Board for its partnership and support.

Scott Reynolds poses with ISA mascot, MimoISA is your professional society. At a time when many are thinking about automation’s impact on the workforce and the pace of emerging technologies, it is more important than ever to emphasize a core truth: automation depends on people. I encourage you to deepen your engagement with ISA and to welcome colleagues and peers to join and get involved.

I am proud to have contributed to ISA’s continued evolution, and I look forward to seeing the society build on this success in the years ahead.

2025 ISA President

From the CEO

This year, ISA has continued to serve our members and the broader automation community with another consecutive year of growth and sustained strong financial performance. This growth is not for growth's sake — it is reinvested in the innovative programs and services that ISA provides for the global automation profession.

As you will see throughout this annual report, these accomplishments are not isolated. They reflect a multi-year trajectory of increased stability and ongoing cultural improvement within the professional home that automation and instrumentation practitioners have relied on for more than 80 years.

None of this progress would be possible without the people behind it. I am proud to lead an amazing professional staff, and am grateful to ISA members, volunteers, the Executive Board and the broader automation community for your engagement, support and commitment to creating a better world through automation. I want to especially congratulate and thank Scott Reynolds for his phenomenal leadership as ISA president this year.

ISA’s membership is strong, vibrant and growing — and that is something to be proud of. Together, we can sustain momentum, expand ISA’s reach and remain the organization of choice for the automation profession. Thank you for being part of the ISA journey, and for growing with us.

Position Papers

Subject-matter experts from the ISA community authored a variety of position papers and white papers on key areas of focus for the automation profession. Find them all at isa.org/position-papers

industrial-AI

Industrial AI and Its Impact on Automation

This position paper outlines the evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) in automation from expert systems and fuzzy logic to today’s data-driven and generative AI, tracing its growing role in industrial operations.

The paper also highlights critical risks: human safety, system reliability, data quality, explainability, cybersecurity, process compliance, workforce skills and concentrated market dependencies.

Cloud

Cloud Computing in OT Environments

Adopting cloud technology can still help improve data management, analytics, collaboration, cost efficiency and scalability in some automation scenarios.

The rise of machine learning (ML), generative artificial intelligence (AI) and cognitive AI further drives demand, but cloud computing also requires robust safety measures, reliable connectivity and effective change management.

Ethical-sourcing

Automation and Ethical Sourcing

Ethical sourcing can be supported by implementing automation technologies to support traceability and transparency in the supply chain, advanced controls and robotics to implement remote autonomous operations, minimizing human intervention in harsh working conditions and protecting workers from harm, and safety systems and cybersecurity controls to reduce the likelihood and consequence of any loss of containment that could harm the environment.

Podcast

Podomation — ISA's flagship podcast — is unique in the industrial and manufacturing space. Where other podcasts are narrowly focused or tend to heavily feature promotional vendor content, Podomation takes a broad approach to the big issues impacting industrial automation and brings together panels of subject-matter experts for technical yet spirited conversations.
