International Automation Professionals Day
28 April 2026
Automation Depends on People
And that is just what we celebrate on 28 April — the people behind the automation systems, technologies and processes that make the world a better place.
International Automation Professionals Day began as a celebration of the International Society of Automation (ISA) and its founders' long-lasting contributions to the industry.
Now, we get to witness the legacies being created by those who have dedicated their career to this ever-changing industry.
To the entire automation community, thank you for helping us create a better world through automation.
What Is Automation?
Automation is the creation and application of technology to monitor and control the production and delivery of products and services.
Automation encompasses many vital elements, systems and job functions, and it provides significant benefits to many sectors:
- Manufacturing, including food and pharmaceutical, chemical and petroleum, pulp and paper
- Transportation, including automotive, aerospace and rail
- Utilities, including water and wastewater, oil and gas, electric power and telecommunications
- Facility operations, including security, environmental control, energy management and more
Who Are Automation Professionals?
The automation professional is any individual involved in the creation and application of technology to monitor and control the production and delivery of products and services.
Automation professionals live and work all over the world — in manufacturing facilities, in major multinational companies, in critical infrastructure and in small-to-medium-size enterprises in your own backyard.

We want to know how you believe automation is changing the world for the better.
Make sure to include #AutomationProDay or #IAPD in your post.
A few ways you can do this include showing yourself working as an automation professional, a day in the life as an automation student, photos/videos of yourself wearing ISA gear, participating in or attending an ISA event or just interacting with others in the field of automation.
